Drought hits Polish farmers

Share this article:

June is a key month for agriculture - the yield of crops, above all cereals, which form the basis of our agriculture, depends on how much water falls on the fields and the distribution and abundance of rainfall And this month promises to be disastrous.

Precipitation is expected to be less than usual, with temperatures higher than average. It will therefore be hot and dry. On top of this, the rainfall, if it does occur, is expected to be sudden, short-lived and heavy, and such rainfall will not only not improve the plants' situation, but may worsen it.

For farmers to recoup their production costs, they need to harvest at least 7 tonnes per hectare of wheat and 3.5 tonnes per hectare of oilseed rape. Unfortunately, with the scarcity of moisture, these figures are unrealistic

Farmers are already expecting at least 20 per cent less crop As if that were not enough, prices for grain are low and production costs are high.
