One in five premises will disappear, 250,000 people will lose their jobs

The situation in the catering industry is disastrous. Only one in five companies sells takeaways or delivery to customers, which allows them to generate a maximum of 10 per cent of their previous turnover.

Up to PLN 30 billion could evaporate from the catering sector in 2020, according to analyses by the Economic Chamber of Polish Gastronomy (IGGP), which 'Rzeczpospolita' reports first. Taking into account that for 2019. GfK estimated the value of gastronomy at PLN 36.6 billion, this is a real pogrom. The IGGP estimates that once the restrictions on restaurant work are removed, one in five restaurants may not open in the spring - so around 15,000 establishments face liquidation. The change in working patterns will also mean huge layoffs, with up to 250,000 people potentially losing their jobs in a sector that employs around one million people.

Małgorzata Anisimowicz – qualified restructuring advisor and president PMR Restructuring Management Board commented on the publication of the Puls Biznesu daily devoted to the issue of corporate bankruptcy.
