Share this article:

The dairy crisis has led to a deterioration in the industry's financial performance. Gross profit generated in Q1 2023 fell to just £64.8m from as much as £895m in the same period in 2022. Net profit, on the other hand, fell to PLN 24.6 million in Q1 2023 from PLN 783.5 million a year ago. This gives - 7 per cent and 3 per cent of last year's profits respectively 📉.

The crisis in Polish milk processing plants was caused by record milk purchase prices at the end of last year, combined with falling prices in stores, lower demand and high prices. energy prices. As a result, each of the big three companies (Mlekovita, Mlekpol and Polmlek) has taken over smaller dairies this year ⚠

"The costs of processing have increased beyond belief. And any burden will cause more and more companies will be had to seek salvation in the form of consolidation or searching for external investors or they will close their business," says Agnieszka Maliszewska, general director of the Polish Chamber of Milk, who estimates that as a result of this crisis, small plants in particular will go bankrupt.
