Large increase in insolvency of Polish companies

According to a report by Coface, in the first quarter of 2023, the insolvency of enterprises in Poland increased by 31% compared to the last quarter of 2022. It was added that the increase in insolvencies concerns every industry.

The authors of the report noted that companies in Poland "are thriving in an environment full of concerns about the future shape of demand, while other challenges, including higher operating costs, components used in production or staff shortages, remain significant barriers to doing business."

Many energy-intensive sectors are filing for insolvency, and there has also been a significant increase in proceedings in trade and construction.

Business crisis is taking its toll on the country's economy. According to Coface's forecasts, Poland's economic growth this year will be 1 percent, "which is one of the lowest rates since the economic transformation, with the exception of the pandemic recession in 2020."
