Hawe Telekom invests USD 2.4 million in fibre infrastructure

Share this article:

Hawe Telekom, a company of the Mediatel SA group, has concluded a contract for the supply, installation, commissioning and 5-year maintenance of a new DWDM transmission system of the Huawei concern. The investment is part of the company's ongoing restructuring plan and will enable a significant improvement in financial performance across the group.

The system being implemented will increase the capacity of Hawe Telekom's transmission network to 8Tbps. This is currently the world's most advanced technological solution for the construction of carrier-class long-distance transport networks.

- Essentially, we are increasing the capacity of the network, which will enable us to expand our service offering to our existing customers and to attract new ones. - explains Paweł Paluchowski, CEO of Hawe Telekom - New sections will be built to connect the largest cities and provide better coverage of the country with our fibre-optic network. Its reliability will also increase, because we want to provide our customers with services of the highest quality and safety.

The new DWDM system will allow the company to meet the constantly growing demand for nationwide wholesale inter-operator services, including transmission support for channels with a capacity of 400Gbps or 1Tbps. Its reliability will increase through immediate detection of potential damage and the possibility of immediate automatic reconfiguration of the provided data transmission services. The new DWDM will cover the entire country and connect cities such as: Warsaw, Szczecin, Poznań, Wrocław, Gdańsk, Kraków, Katowice, Lublin, Białystok and dozens of other cities and towns. In total HAWE Telecom will equip 66 access points on 4 thousand km of network with new transmission devices. The system will also be used to develop Hawe Telekom's offer in the scope of IPTV multicast signal distribution services, Internet access and MPLS/IP data transmission. At the same time, thanks to achieving uniformity in the entire fiber optic network, the company will reduce the costs of maintaining the system

- The expansion and modernisation of the fibre-optic network system throughout Poland will make it more accessible to the new groups of customers we want to attract. - continues Paweł Paluchowski - We see considerable potential among regional operators. The company's strategic customers remain fixed and mobile national operators and global leaders of the international telecommunications market. The first months of the implementation of the restructuring plan have confirmed that demand for our services continues in an upward trend. The Company continues to enjoy the confidence of existing customers and, importantly, is rapidly increasing the number of new contracts. We have a healthy business that will earn the targets set in the sanitation process.

The new DWDM system is another investment HAWE Telecom in increasing the efficiency and capacity of the network over the last 6 months. The aim is to provide the company with the ability to increase its customer base, develop its offer with new, highly technologically advanced solutions, and thus increase revenues.

– The actions taken by Hawe Telekom have been included in the restructuring plan adopted and accepted by the creditors’ council and the Court – explains Małgorzata Anisimowicz, President of the Management Board of the PMR law firm. Restrukturyzacje SA acting as the company's restructuring manager - The value of the contract for the new DWDM amounts to nearly USD 2.4 million and will be covered entirely from the company's own funds generated after the opening of the restructuring proceedings. The essence of the ongoing restructuring process is to optimize the company's operations. However, depriving it of the possibility of development and seeking sources of financing for liabilities would be contrary to the applicable law. By adopting the restructuring plan, the company's creditors noticed its potential for a gradual, stable reconstruction of financial results, and the administrator and the board are now implementing this plan.

Hawe Telekom has been in the restructuring process since March 2016. The restructuring plan was adopted in September last year and since then the company has been implementing its provisions. The restructuring plan has been filed with the court and is available on creditors' motion companies.
